How to Maximize Your Garage Space

Chances are that your vehicle is one of the largest and most important investments that you own. Therefore, why should you leave it outdoors if you own a garage? Leaving your vehicle outdoor exposes it to UV rays, tree saps, bird droppings, and other debris. Plus, getting into a hot vehicle during the summer season can prove to be frustrating. By storing your vehicle in your garage, it will help to keep it clean and to extend its life. Here are some things to consider when it comes to maximizing your garage space.

1) Organize Your Garage

Before you start the process of purchasing storage solutions for your garage such as exterior sliding barn door hardware for your sliding door at your garage entrance, it’s highly recommended that you organize the garage first. This entails bringing everything out of the garage and establishing an organization system before you bring them back into the garage. An organization system entails allocating specific areas of the garage for specific items, such as placing the brooms and rakes in the corner of the garage or storing boxes at the back of the garage against the wall.

2) Maximize Wall Space

In order for you to make space in your garage so that you can store your vehicle in it, you need to clear the floor space. One of the ways you can do this is to use a wall organizer. Walls are great when it comes to saving space. You can use cabinets and hang items on the walls by utilizing hooks. This can help to remove clutter from the floor as well as to keep everything visible and enable easy access.

3) Ceiling or Overhead Storage

After making good use of your garage’s available wall space, the next area you can focus on is the ceiling. By using a ceiling-mounted rack, it can help to provide overhead storage options in your garage. Overhead storage solutions are ideal for storing items that you tend to use infrequently or on a seasonal basis such as snow shovels or a leaf blower for example. The key to remember when it comes to getting overhead storage is to ensure that you get durable and sturdy racks to minimize the chance that it may fall on your vehicle.

4) Organize Wires

Loose wiring can make a garage feel cluttered and dirty. Chances are that you store multiple appliances and power tools in your garage. One of the easiest things you can do to organize your garage is to wrap loose wires. You can tie long wires together by using a zip tie. In addition to that, when it comes to extension cords and other miscellaneous wiring, you should tie and place everything in a specific drawer.

5) Adjustable Shelving

Adjustable shelving is ideal for the garage because it provides more flexibility when it comes to storing different items or various sizes. This is because, unlike a standard shelf which cannot be adjusted, adjustable shelves provide a movable surface as to which you can lower or raise vertically.

6) Evaluate Mystery Boxes

Mystery boxes can be best described as being various storage boxes that you’ve placed and forgotten in your garage. These are typically boxes filled with miscellaneous items that you may have lost track of. Like most homeowners, chances are that you have several mystery boxes filled with junk items that should be discarded. Therefore, ensure that you open all mystery boxes in your garage and determine if the items within them are still of use. When it comes to getting rid of unwanted items, you can donate them to charity and receive a tax write-off, sell them, or discard them.

7) Garage Cabinet

One of the easiest things you can do to maximize your garage space is to get a garage cabinet. Garage cabinets are ideal if you want to store toxic or harmful items so that children and pets don’t come into contact with them. They can be used for everything from power tools and lawn equipment to screws and chemicals.

8) Folding Work Bench

If you use your garage as a workshop or for crafting different items, purchasing a foldable workbench can help you to maximize your garage space while enabling you to partake in your crafting activities. Wall-mounted workbenches that can be folded once you’re finished using them will help to free up some floor space.
