Reasons to be Pro-choice

When it comes to the abortion debate, there are people who would vote pro-choice. This is where they believe the decision to have an abortion should be made by the woman. The reasoning is based on the fact that pregnancy occurs in a woman’s body. If you want to know more about the pro-choice argument, this post can be a useful resource.

Here are reasons to vote pro-choice

  • It is all about women’s rights

Pregnancy occurs in a woman’s body. The woman will have to carry the pregnancy to term and risk their lives giving birth. The woman will also have to sacrifice to raise the child. It is only fair when women are getting to decide what is best for them. It is a woman’s choice to decide when to have children. Couples should have an option not to bring babies with life-threatening health conditions into the world. Women should not be punished for having sex with motherhood. Motherhood should be a choice for women. Sometimes, the families don’t care about protecting anonymity of the abortion as they feel that it’s the life of a mother that matters the most in those life-threatening situations than thinking about the society.

  • Women’s health is at risk

Making abortion illegal will put the lives of women at risk. Women will turn to back-street abortion clinics. The quacks usually perform abortions in unsanitary conditions and the procedures are likely to cause injury and at times death. Having abortions legalized will make it safer for women to undergo the procedure. They can have safe abortions that will not affect their fertility.

  • Life begins at birth

Life starts from the moment of birth and not at conception. Abortion is where a pregnancy is terminated. It is not the killing of a baby. Most abortions occur within the first three months of a pregnancy. During that time, the fetus does not look like a person. However, those who argue pro-life choose to show older fetus to sway your emotion.

The fetus is not capable of human emotion and cannot feel pain. After birth is when they can register emotions such as pain. Having an abortion will not cause any pain to fetus especially if it is done within the early months.

  • Access to abortion is a necessity

Birth control is not always available. Women are required to have a doctor’s prescription to get most types of contraceptives. Most insurance plans do not cover birth control. This makes it harder for women to have access to birth control. While there are those who can afford to get birth control for themselves, women who cannot afford it are more likely to get unplanned pregnancies. Access to abortion makes it possible for women to plan when they will have children.

  • It is necessary for population control

Abortion is effective when it comes to population control. Overpopulation comes with devastating effects. There will be rising cases of malnutrition, lack of medical services, starvation, pollution, lack of education services, underdevelopment and conflict due to the scarce resources. Why bring a child into the world to suffer? You are better of not having the child so you can have a better life.

When the population is under control, you will find there will be a reduction in the rate of crime. When women have unwanted pregnancies, the children will be raised in poverty. As a result, they will turn to crime to make their livelihood. The children also have a higher chance of becoming criminals since that is the environment they were raised in.

  • Rape and Incest

Rape is a traumatizing experience. No-one wants to have a daily reminder of what they went through. Carrying a pregnancy that came as a result of rape can make the woman get depressed. No woman should be forced to raise a child that was conceived via incest or rape. Having an abortion can help the woman get rid of any excess baggage that could have hindered their recovery.

Taking the option away from women means forcing women to carry children that will be a constant reminder of the trauma they went through.

  • Pregnancy and child bearing puts women at a financial and educational disadvantage

Most women who choose to have an abortion do not have the resources to raise a child. A survey was done and most women who had abortions did it because being pregnant and raising a baby would have interfered with their education and career. Having a choice helps them grow both educationally and financially.
