Best Events To Attend When You Travel

Sports have always been a big part of the human experience and the number of sports that are played around the world are almost incomprehensible. There is something for everyone out there and you just need to know where to look. Here is a list of some of the most popular sporting events in the world.

Formula 1

Formula 1 is one of the most foremost motor racing sports in the world. It spans over 23 countries so if you are into the sport, it is well worth checking out the races if you happen to be in a country that is hosting it. The Australian Grand Prix has been held in Melbourne since 1996 and has been a big hit with international visitors over the years. The city is alive with the excitement of the races that are held at Albert Park Lake and has seen such champions there as Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard, Lewis Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel.

AFL grand final

Australian Rules Football is a big thing in Australia, especially in September. If you want to experience a truly Australian pastime, then the AFL Grand Final which is held during this month is a must-see for anyone interested in the game. It is one of the most exciting sporting events in Australia and has included performances from international stars including Muhammad Ali in 1998, INXS in 2010, Ed Sheeran in 2014, and infamously Meatloaf in 2011. This adds to the atmosphere of the game and is a great way to spend the day if you are inclined to get immersed in Australian Rules Football.

NBA playoffs

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the United States so it’s no surprise that betting on NBA games is a prevalent pastime. Some of the best athletes have come out of the NBA, most notably players like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to name but a few. The playoffs send whatever city is hosting them into a frenzy that culminates in the main final which is one of the biggest events on the sporting calendar and is watched all over the world. Basketball is not simply a sport, it has become an institution all over the planet and has helped young people to find support and validation in their respective places.

Spring racing carnival

One of the great things about the Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne is that it is set when the weather is mild and sunny and there is something to do for everyone. The horse races are the ultimate events but there are plenty of other things to experience. Fashion events held over this period are a standout during this time as well as a large array of bars and restaurants to dine in. If you are interested in horse racing, you can visit plenty of different races around Melbourne most famously being the revered Melbourne Cup which is known as ‘the race that stops the nation’.

No matter what sporting events you come across during your travels they are an activity you can participate in that shows the real culture of a sporting nation. It doesn’t matter whether you plan your attendance ahead or you just pick up some tickets on the day, a sporting day during your travels is sure to give you the experience of a lifetime.
