Fall has finally arrived here in the midwest. It’s definitely cooler, and the leaves are blowing up in such color they look like a watercolor painting. All this beauty, jus confirms once again why autumn is my favorite season.
I know what you must be thinking…baking in July, really? With expect highs in the 90s this week, I probably won’t be turning the oven on either. But head on over to ‘The Creative Mama’ anyway, and I’ll tell you a little more about our favorite zucchini muffins and why taking a few easy steps now, can mean enjoying summer zucchini (and these muffins) in the fall and winter months.
I heard a man on TV yesterday say that, ‘July is like the Saturday of summer.’ Days move a little slower, vacations are taken, afternoons at the swimming pool, evenings of playing with neighborhood friends. Yep, it’s definitely July.
Last week, we made our way out to the cherry orchard to pick our share of cherries. Out of all the ‘u-pick’ fruits that come into season, I think cherries is probably one of our favorites. There are big fans of cherry desserts around our house, so we made sure to pick enough for several rounds of crisps and cobblers.
During these busy days of summer I am finding myself drawn to simple. Simple meals and easy routines have been the theme. Thankfully, this is the time of year when eating simply could not taste better. Over the weekend, we made our usual trip to the farmers’ market. I was amazed at the amount of produce filling the vendors booths. Beautiful, French Breakfast radishes, baskets full of salad greens, piles of asparagus, spring garlic, green onions and our favorite snap peas.
