Well, it’s been awhile friends….

A big snowstorm arrived just ahead of our holidays, meaning an early start to our Christmas break.  It was the kick off to about two weeks of hibernation that set in around our house.  Staying in our pjs day after day, making blanket forts, sledding, powering down laptops and spending time as a family.  It was wonderful.  The time away from technology was refreshing…freeing even.

Our Christmas Eve is usually pretty relaxed and just our little family.  We go to a Christmas Eve service at our church, were we’ll sing our favorite carols and soak up the beautiful message of the season.  Afterward, we’ll head home for our Christmas Eve meal.  It’s different every year and something we decide on together.  This year, we are having a Mexican feast with enchiladas and tortilla soup.  We’ll then open a few gifts before reading the Christmas Story and tucking the boys in bed.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday celebration!

Tuesday.

We started the day with Pancake Muffins.  The boys love them (especially Samuel) and ask for them almost every week.

Boys to school and Henry and I were off to the gym.

Today we looked for spring everywhere, and even managed to find it in a few places.

PB&J for lunch and the juiciest pears I’ve tasted this season.

I poured over a new cookbook while Henry took an amazing 2 hour nap.

We heard thunder for the first time since summer and had a tornado watch.

Boys home from school and we worked on making butterflies to bring a little spring inside.

New sunglasses for Samuel.

Baseball practice for Ben.

Supper, showers and boys to bed.

It was a good day.  I hope Wednesday is just as good…hope yours is too.

all pics taken with iPhone…

The day started early, as the boys are not as interested in sleep as their parents.  As promised the night before, Chocolate Chip pancakes were on the menu for breakfast.  It was a typical February winter day, cold and gray.  While the boys were at Sunday School Bret and I made our weekly produce run to the store.  After church and lunch came naptime.  It was much needed after our busy Saturday.  While his brothers were sleeping Ben asked if we could do something together…maybe bake?  We made a Chocolate Cobbler (I’ll be sharing recipe tomorrow).  He assisted in helping make a few changes to the recipe and in the process learned that sometimes it takes a mistake or two to get the results you are looking for.  ’Angry birds’ is the newest obsession in our house and I find myself hunting for my iPhone more than usual (and when I find it 1 or more boys are huddled around it).  Tomato soup for supper  was followed by a Wii soccer tournament and Ben’s chocolate dessert.  A few stories, 3 boys tucked in, and our day was done.

It was a good Sunday, but as always, it went way too fast.

We start our days early around here (weekend or not) and as is our ritual, pancakes were on the menu for breakfast.  Then off to the gym for a tough, but good workout with a friend.  The boys played away the afternoon as superheroes in their secret hideouts while eagerly awaiting the arrival of Nana and Grandpa.  Repeatedly asking…

“Aren’t they here YET?”  ”When will they be here?”  ”Are they coming soon?”

Some much needed haircuts were given by grandpa, then a quick supper and off to soccer.  Then home for dessert and saying good-bye as the grandparents headed home.  After a full day the boys were tired and off to bed as Bret headed back to help with soccer.  With a quiet house I made some tea, got my new bookshelf  (built by my talented dad) in order, read a beautiful magazine and headed to bed.  Whew!  Busy day…wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way.

Hope your Saturday was a good one too.
