November??!  How can it be?  We are almost through fall, and truthfully, I’m not ready to see it go. There has been a certain vibrancy and beauty to this season that I cannot explain, and do not want to end anytime soon.

Last weekend, we took a little trip east, over to Waubonsie State Park in Iowa.  It was our third year for making this fall trip, to walk the trails and soak in the autumn beauty.  There is something magical about being amongst the canopy of trees with colorful leaves gently falling on the paths.  We hunted for acorns, walking sticks and other treasures.

So, way back in January, a friend suggested I should sign up for my first full marathon.  I’d always sworn that this was something I would NEVER do, but as it happens, good friends can be quite persuasive.  With roughly half a dozen half marathons and countless 5k and 10k races under my belt, I figured maybe it was a good time to go ahead and make the leap.  Training began back in June, 16 weeks of training, ultimately ending at the start line on October 13th at the Chicago Marathon.

I haven’t spoken a whole lot about it here, mostly because I’m trying to avoid being this person….

The internet is a funny place. It can make the world feel both very big and very small at the same time.   In the almost 3 years this blog has been around, I’ve been fortunate enough to ‘meet’ many talented, kind people.  One of these people is Melissa Coleman, aka ‘The Faux Martha’.  I first came across Melissa a couple years ago, when I ordered one of her beautiful, handmade cowls.  Our paths crossed again in ‘The Food Matters Project’.  Admiring her eye for simplicity and design (and let’s face it, she bakes some amazing goodies too) I asked her to help me make this blog space beautiful, and as you can see, she did just that.

I know what you must be thinking…baking in July, really?  With expect highs in the 90s this week, I probably won’t be turning the oven on either.  But head on over to ‘The Creative Mama’ anyway, and I’ll tell you a little more about our favorite zucchini muffins and why taking a few easy steps now, can mean enjoying summer zucchini (and these muffins) in the fall and winter months.
