My name is Alison Bickel, and I live in the heart of the midwest where, along with my husband, we raise our three boys. Whether it’s in the garden, the kitchen or tagging along on my boys’ latest adventure I like to look for the simple beauty in everyday from behind my lens. The photography bug bit me in sixth grade, upon getting my first camera, a Kodak Disk. I’ve been chasing light and subjects ever since. Here, on my blog, you’ll find tales of mothering, my passion for vegetarian cooking and obsession with farmer’s markets documented in pictures and words.

I LOVE what you are doing. Keep up the good work. My daughter in law is a photographer in Newberg Oregon I stumbled across your pg. on FB. I’m a fan and wish you all the best.
Thanks so much Kristen!
Hi – I get the Linden Drive references and as a mom constantly cooking for my 4 kids, I think we might overlap in some nice ways. Thanks for the lovely photos – hope spring finds you well!

Alison – I be a lot of people would love it if you came out with some sort of cookbook or something! I know I would buy it! All the food you have on here looks amazaing and delicious and if I wasn’t living on a college student’s budget, I would make more of it! Thank you for this website!
Thanks Amber! Maybe some day…a girl can dream, right?
Found your blog as I just joined the Food Matters Project. I’ve got two boys and while I live on the East Coast I am from the midwest. Looking forward to looking around your blog!

Hi, just stumble across your blog looking for an almond and chocolate cluster recipe. It looks great and I was going to ask for your advice on what camera I can use, I am beginner bloger myself… Thanks, any advice would be appreciated. Your photos are amaizing, I was so impressed I shared your blog on my fb page
Oana
Thanks Oana, glad to have you here. I would suggest working with what you have to get started, focusing on finding good light and composition. If you are looking for a DSLR I would probably suggest the Canon Rebel series. I shoot Nikon now, but that’s what I started with. There are so many great sources on photography, The Creative Mama has some good tutorials and e courses. Just photograph and write what you love, your readers will follow. Above all make sure to have fun!
Thanks Alison,
Will look into it. I saw a book you advertise on your photography page, will that be a good place to start?
Your blog is beautiful! Love your photography style, the composition, light, everything. The way you photograph food is gorgeous and inspiring.
Thank you for your kind words Lise.
Lovely blog, I just found it and am pleasantly surprised at the similarities we share. My first camera was also a Disk and I adore vegetarian cooking! Just thought I’d say hello.
Melanie, I’m glad you’re here. Thank you for taking the time to write.
