I had a plan for Friday morning.  A plan that included a quick road trip to the south to pick cherries.  I’d called the orchard to confirm they still had them, and talked it up with the boys.  It was one of my favorite items on our summer list last year, so I added it again to this year’s list.  Things would be a bit different this year;  my husband was out of town and my oldest was at the lake for a sleep over, leaving just me and my two younger boys.  No matter, we would make our own fun.

Highlights of our morning…

Picking peaches after learning there were no cherries left to pick

Getting the last bag of pre-picked cherries

Spiced sugar donuts from the orchard bakery (so very amazing)

Slurping, juicy bites of freshly picked peaches

Laughing at puckered faces after eating too many cherries

Cranking up the radio, singing to the top of our lungs

Laughing at what bad singers we are

I didn’t capture it all on camera.  It felt more right to be in the moment than document it.  Some memories are just better collected that way.

Time to check one more thing off the summer bucket list…onto our next adventure.

  1. Once again, the pictures are so beautiful I almost feel like i’m there… minus the delicious fresh fruit smell that orchards tend to have. xo

What a beautiful day with your family – the peaches look so amazing, I can’t wait to see what recipes you come up with to use up your bounty!

Thanks Heather! The peaches were so delicious…really juicy. I had to fight just to save a few for baking. ;)

Beautiful pics as always! What orchard did you go to – if you do not mind asking?! Somehow we missed strawberry season as I met to do that awhile back….where does time go!

Katie–we went to Kimmel Orchard down in Nebraska City for the peaches and Martin’s Orchard in Ceresco for strawberries.

Thanks Alison – I was guessing that is where it might have been. We took a road trip today to Kimmel and the kiddos have been loving their peaches like no other! They want to go back! We have a peach tree in a yard too – so I may have to learn how to can!
