Recipe for a Bad Day

I botched a batch of cookies yesterday. Big time. It was just one more thing, in a string of things that did not go well yesterday. I had a recipe for Peanut Butter Cookie Cups that I just knew the boys would love. The plan was to make them after lunch so they would be ready when Ben and Samuel got home from school. Seemed easy enough. But the truth…I was tired, distracted and not really into it. Throw in my sweet 5 year old interrupting every couple of minutes, showing me his latest play dough creation, and it was a recipe for disaster. I mixed the wet ingredients, added the chocolate chips and after several interruptions from the phone and Henry I got back to the batter and began scooping it into the muffin tray. Placing them in the oven I set the timer and moved onto cleaning up. When I turned to wipe off the counter there it was…the green bowl that contained the mixture of flour and baking powder. I had mixed them together and set them aside, just as instructed. Then went on to completely forget about them. I glanced at the timer to see how long the cookies had been baking. Only 3 minutes. I pulled them out, dumped the batter back into the mixing bowl with the flour mixture and tried to salvage what was left. The chocolate chips had melted, but I knew the boys wouldn’t care as long as the flavor was good. Scooping the batter back into the muffin tin, I beat myself up for trying to bake when I was so obviously tired, my mind somewhere else. I put the cookies back into the oven and reset the timer.
